Abstract:
Eosinophils and platelets (PTLs) interact during the onset of allergy, but the underlying molecular mechanisms are incompletely understood. This study shows that eosinophil-platelet aggregate (EPA) formation occurs even without stimulation, plasma inhibits EPAs and aids resolution. Moreover, PLTs transfer receptors to eosinophils during resolution, possibly interfering with eosinophil function. The cell line HL-60 clone 15 was characterized as a model system for eosinophilic cells.
