- Abstract:
- This thesis investigates transformable light-weight structures. In scope are spatial grid structures for support, that perform elastic mechanisms. These grids are based on initially straight, partly compliant beams, that are coupled by hinges. This work determines fundamental mechanical phenomena and presents engineering strategies for practical use, and thereby provides a comprehensive basis for the development of such structures for architectural use.

- Diese Arbeit untersucht wandelbare Tragwerke des Leichtbaus. Im Fokus sind räumliche, tragende Gitterstrukturen aus ursprünglich geraden, gelenkig gekoppelten Stäben, mit der Fähigkeit zur elastischen Formänderung. Das grundlegende mechanische Verhalten sowie Planungsstrategien werden systematisch dargelegt, und somit eine umfassende Basis für die Entwicklung solcher Systeme in der Architektur geschaffen.
