This thesis describes a novel resource management architecture for IP-based intranets. The architecture is designed to facilitate the integration of realtime services in data networks. The technical concept is based on the functional separation of packet processing and resource reservation. It enables flexible interworkingwith various service control entities and underlying network technologies. The components of the architecture can easily be introduced in an existing intranet environment. On the basis of measurements and chracterization of realtime critical IP-traffic appropriate call admission control algorithms are selected. In a second step, the system architecture and a reservation protocol was developed, prototypical impelemented and evaluated in several testbeds.
