Abstract:
This thesis presents the design of the electrical system of a modular wave energy converter. The key components include a DC/DC converter, a motor drive and a grid inverter, connected through a modular DC grid. An optimal current vector method improves the efficiency of the power take-off system. A new inverter topology is proposed that allows a fully parallel connection. For grid compatibility, power smoothing is realised by a droop control and supercapacitors connected to the DC/DC converter.
