At first the sensory profile from patients with primary restless legs syndrome was determined in a clinically controlled study; a static mechanical hyperalgesia could be confirmed. The latter is not specific for RLS because it could be observed in neuropathic pain as well. Based on these facts in the second part of the study a quantitative association study was carried out to examine, whether the genetic risk variations with RLS also have an influence on the static mechanical hyperalgesia in neuropathic pain.
