Description:
This dataset supplements the research article "Know What You Don’t Know: Assessment of Overlooked Microplastic Particles in FTIR Images", published 04 07 2022 in microplastics (DOI 10.3390/microplastics1030027). It comprises:

  • 9,537 transmission µFTIR spectra of polyethylene, polypropylene, polystyrene, polyvinyl chloride, polylactic acid, polymethyl methacrylate, polyamide, polycarbonate, polyurethane,polyethylene terephthalate, varnish-like, cellulose, protein, and sand and 'anodisc' background spectra (FTIR_MP_train_test_spectra.csv)
  • 15 reference spectra (FTIR_MP_references.csv)
  • one reference transmission µFTIR image (RefIMP) (zipped directory, *.dmd and *.spe)
  • Lists of reference particles and types contained in RefIMP
    (Particles_Of_RefIMP.xlsx)
  • MatLab scripts (zipped directory)

  • Method of data assessment:
    Microplastic spectra and image were acquired on an Agilent Cary 620/670 Fourier-Transform Infrared imaging system. Spectral range: 3,700-1,250 cm-1; Spectral resolution: 8 cm-1; Measurement mode: transmisison; Objective: 15x; Corresponding pixel size: 5.5 µm; Number of sample scans: 30; Number of background scans: 120;
    Data were generated to establish a reference for the evaluation of microplastic data analysis routines. It serves as supplementary data for the article XXX
