- The past decade has witnessed an increase in the height of dams and in the specific flow rates discharged down spillways. On many projects dam heights are in excess of 200 m with spillway discharges greater than 270 m3/m·sec. These quantities imply velocities in the concrete spillway chutes of the order of 50 m/sec and higher.
