- Die Therapie der Wahl einer zervikalen Dystonie besteht in lokalen Botulinumtoxin-Injektionen. In der vorliegenden Arbeit wurden Muskelveränderungen des M. sternocleidomastoideus bei langzeit-behandelten Patienten mittels elektromyographischer und kernspintomographischer Verfahren untersucht und mit gesunden Kontrollprobanden verglichen. Insgesamt fanden sich mit beiden Verfahren Veränderungen, die denen nach einmaliger oder kurzfristiger Botulinumtoxin-Behandlung vergleichbar sind.

- Therapy of choice for cervical dystonia is local botulinum toxin injections. We investigated changes of the sternocleidomastoid muscle of long-term treated patients performing quantitative EMG and MRI and comparing the results with healthy controlls. With both methods we found changes similar to those after single or short-term botulinum toxin therapy.
