Isogeometric Analysis (IGA) has the aim of integrating structural analysis into CAD system by directly using the NURBS description of geometry by CAD also for the analysis. Thereof, a lot of advantages evolve. The possibility of CAD-integration is inherently provided. Parametric processes including both - geometrical and structural - parameters, are not anymore dependent on the automation of meshing. The seamless link is also beneficial as not only the preprocessing can be done in CAD but also the results are represented by NURBS and can therefore be directly used for further analyses, evaluation or optimization. This could be a classical form finding for a membrane facade with a consecutive structural analysis or cutting pattern computation. The simulation of several construction stages is another example for the advantages of IGA as consecutive steps can be derived from previous analysis steps in the parametric design environment. All parts can intertwine as the mathematical description is not changed. As there is only one environment in CAD this gives the possibility for a closer cooperation between architects and structural engineers.     «
