A New Approach to Assess and Optimize the Frontal Crash Compatibility of Vehicle Structures

Car-to-car compatibility is a key factor in reducing the number of injuries and road fatalities. However, there exists no comprehensive assessment approach for the crash compatibility of passenger cars. The aim of this work is to develop an approach to assess and optimize the frontal crash compatibility of vehicle structures. A fundamental definition model for crash compatibility is presented, and a new assessment approach is developed and validated with simulation results.
