Abstract:
Posttranslationale Modifikationen sind ein weit verbreiteter Mechanismus, um die Funktion von Proteinen zu erweitern und zu modulieren. Kleine GTPasen können dabei durch sekretierte bakterielle Enzyme posttranslational modifiziert werden. In dieser Arbeit wurden die Auswirkungen dieser posttranslationalen Modifikationen auf kleine GTPasen funktionell und strukturell untersucht und erstmals ein neuer Regulationsmechanismus des Aktivitätszustandes der kleinen GTPase Rab1 beschrieben

Posttranslational modifications are a widespread mechanism to modulate and diversify protein functions. Small GTPases may be posttranslationally modified by secreted bacterial enzymes. In this work, effects of posttranslational modifications on small GTPases were characterized functionally and structurally and a new regulatory mechanism for the activity state of the small GTPase Rab1 was elucidated.
