Abstract:: Die Dissertation rekonstruiert, dokumentiert und untersucht den Bestand der zwischen 1890 und 1933 entstandenen Volkshäuser der deutschen Arbeiterbewegung. Der Entstehungszusammenhang und die wechselvolle Geschichte der Bauten werden untersucht. Dabei sind die Erbauer und die Nutzung der Häuser ebenso Gegenstand der Betrachtung wie die Architektur selbst. Letztere wird anhand ausgewählter Beispiele vor dem Hintergrund der vielfältigen Architekturströmungen des frühen 20. Jh. analysiert.
