In this paper, we present a basic development of a metal hook and loop fastener. Beginning with the initial idea of a metal hook and loop fastener, followed by the production of prototypes and finally manufacturing a finished sample, three different models are examined in depth. Building on the known functions of snap-on connectors and hook and loop fasteners in general, the development of each solution model also draws on examples from the natural world and from the conventional synthetic hook and loop fastener. Concentrating on the individual components, the degree of cohesion achievable for the fastener is determined for room temperature up to 800°C. In this way, an analysis is made using cross tension, peeling tension and shearing tests with loading conditions at 0°, 30° and 60°. The results of this investigation lay the foundations for the wide-scale adoption of this new kind of detachable fastener.
