Informations- und Kommunikationsprozesse bilden die Basis der Abläufe im Engineering, folglich stellen die unterstützenden Informationssysteme einen Schlüsselfaktor in der Produktentwicklung dar. Andererseits erweisen sich Informationssysteme im Engineering als äußerst komplexe, soziotechnische Systeme und sind durch eine erhebliche Vielfalt und Spezifität gekennzeichnet. Neben hohen Innovationspotenzialen beinhaltet ihr Einsatz nach wie vor auch erhebliche Defizite und birgt wegen der hohen Dynamik auch in Zukunft viele Unwägbarkeiten und Risiken. Ein effektiver und effizienter Einsatz rechnergestützter Informationssysteme im Engineering wird daher selten erzielt. Die vorliegende Arbeit stellt deshalb ein Modell für eine kontinuierliche, institutionalisierte und im soziotechnischen Sinne ganzheitliche Systematik für die fortwährende Einführung, Gestaltung und Optimierung der Informationssysteme in der Produktentwicklung vor.     «

As information and communication processes form the basis of anengineering process, effective information systems are a key success factor in product development. However, engineering information systems are also very complex socio-technical systems that are characterized by considerable diversity and specificity. Despite its promising potential to drive innovation, an engineering information system still faces a myriad of weaknesses that can lead to unforeseen consequences and risks. An effective and efficient application of a computer-aided information systems is, therefore, still rare.
