Abstract:

Purpose: To investigate the influence of one vs. two times enhancement training per week with oscillating machines combined with two to three hours endurance training weekly on hormonal status and bone activity markers within an intervention period of five months. Materials and methods: Calcium, phosphate, clacitonin, c- terminal telopeptide, vitamin D, testosterone and DHEA-S serum levels have been evaluated. Statistical differences were assessed by Wilcoxon- and Mann-Whitney- test. A p-value <0.05 was regarded as statistically significant. Results: Serum levels of calcium, testosterone and DHEA-S were significantly decreased whereas levels of calcitonin and c-terminal telopeptides were significantly increased. No accountable increase of force has been detected. Attendance of training sessions was low (30 percent). Conclusion: Due to a mere fulfillment of about thirty percent of the agreed training time and due to lack of an accountable increase of force it has remained doubtful whether laboratory findings were caused by the training.
