As information and communication processes form the basis of anengineering process, effective information systems are a key success factor in product development. However, engineering information systems are also very complex socio-technical systems that are characterized by considerable diversity and specificity. Despite its promising potential to drive innovation, an engineering information system still faces a myriad of weaknesses that can lead to unforeseen consequences and risks. An effective and efficient application of a computer-aided information systems is, therefore, still rare. The following thesis describes a continuous, institutionalized and, from a socio-technical perspective, integrated systematic for continuous improvement of information systems in product development.
