Abstract:
Ultracold neutrons (E<200 neV) are neutrons with sufficiently low energy to be stored (total reflection) inside confinements with suitable wall materials or high magnetic fields. Within this work, the characterization of solid deuterium as UCN source material as well as the development of a concept for a large-area proton detector for the planned neutron lifetime experiment is presented. The setup of a proton accelerator used for such a detector development is described.
