Abstract:
Unprecedented, realistic 3D turbulence simulations have been performed across the plasma edge and SOL of the diverted ASDEX Upgrade tokamak, paving the road to a better understanding of magnetic confinement fusion devices and their optimization. This is achieved by major extensions of the global physical model in the code GRILLIX, including the plasma and neutral fluids, as well as numerical and computational improvements. Particular attention is paid to the turbulence drive, flows and neutrals.
