Translated abstract:
In case of large osteochondral defects of the weightbearing zones in femoral condyles of young and active patients, an autologuos transfer of the posterior femoral condyle (MegaOATS) is performed since 1996.
Aim of the clinical trail was the evaluation of mid- to longterm results. Therefore, the first 33 patients were clinically evaluated, x-ray examinations were done and 16 patients underwent MRI analysis.
The median Lysholm score rose highly significant (p<0,001) from preoperatively 49,0 to postoperatively 86,0 points. A rounding of the osteotomy edge and refilling of the graft area was seen in 82,8%. Four patients had a Grade I osteoarthritis without preexisting arthritis. All MRI examinations showed a vital and congruent graft. The cartilage of the graft was normal in 13 patients.
Thus, the procedure is recommended, to treat large and deep osteochondral defects in the weight bearing zone of the femoral condyle.
