Abstract:
In this dissertation we investigate plasma terminating disruptions, which threaten the integrity of reactor-relevant tokamaks. With a coupled 1.5D transport framework, I model the interaction of fusion plasma, electron runaway and material injected for mitigation. Applied in simulations of artificial disruptions in ASDEX Upgrade, I show that a good match with experimental observations is only possible when considering MHD-enhanced material transport and the latest relativistic kinetic models.
