Das blühende Kraut von Verbena officinalis L. kann durch seine sekretolytischen und antiviralen Eigenschaften die Wirksamkeit von Kombinationspräparaten zur Behandlung von Katharrhen der oberen Luftwege verbessern. Die Droge unterliegt derzeit noch starken Qualitätsschwankungen. Kulturverfahren sind bisher nicht dokumentiert. Im Rahmen eines 3 ½-jährigen Forschungsprojektes wurden deshalb umfangreiche Ergebnisse zur Keimungsphysiologie, zum Anbau und zur Ernte des Eisenkrauts erarbeitet und in einem vollständigen Anbausystem zusammengefasst. Die neuen Kenntnisse ermöglichen eine nach qualitativen und ökonomischen Gesichtspunkten optimierte Kultursteuerung. Damit wurden die wesentlichen Voraussetzungen geschaffen, um langfristig Eisenkrautdroge von konstant hoher Qualität und therapeutischer Wirksamkeit produzieren zu können.     «

The secretolytical and antiviral activity of the flowering herb Verbena officinalis L. (Vervain) can improve the effectiveness of fixed medicinal compounds for the treatment of catarrh of the upper respiratory tracts. The pharmaceutical quality of the drug is subject to strong variations. Cultivation methods are not documented. Within the scope of a 3 ½ year research project substantial results about the physiology of seed germination, cultivation and harvest were gathered and condensed to a complete cultivation method. This method enables optimised cultivation from a qualitative and economic point of view. The fundamental requirements for the production of Vervain drug in a continuous high quality and constant therapeutical activity were developed.     «
