In a world driven by short times to market, inconsistencies leading to unnecessary delays are highly problematic. However, the complexity of production systems and the number of disciplines involved increase, which results in an even higher likelihood for inconsistencies. In particular, compatibility between modules is an issue relevant for both the design phase and maintenance. While designers have to integrate appropriate modules into a system, maintenance engineers have to find appropriate replacements in case of module failures. Approaches for managing inconsistencies, e.g., using Semantic Web Technologies, have the potential to support both design and maintenance by checking the compatibility of modules. Even though it was cumbersome to aggregate the necessary input information for these approaches, Digital Twins may be able to resolve this limitation. This paper presents an approach based on Semantic Web Technologies for checking compatibility between modules in a production system by using their Digital Twins. The approach is discussed at the example of an industrial use case from the special purpose machinery industry.     «
