- Test of a scintillating fiber readout with avalanche photodiodes
- Abstract:
- A test has been carried out to evaluate the prospects to readout scintillating fibers by avalanche photodiodes (APD). A BICRON BCF-12 fiber of 2 x 2 mm(2) cross-section and 10, respectively 35 cm length has been used. As lightsensor, a Hamamatsu 1x1 mm(2) APD was coupled to the fiber. Electrons from a Ru-106 source, passing the fiber, produce about 100 photoelectrons. Prospects for other geometries and possible improvements are discussed.
