The APOE-APOC1 gene region codes for essential components of lipid metabolism. There are indications for a link between the genetic variability of this region and the risk of cardiovascular disease. This study yields new evidence for the accuracy of this statement. A specific variation (rs445925) in the APOE-APOC1 gene region is associated with the risk of myocardial infarction, both alone and in combination with other variations in this region.
