- Abstract:
- Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) is a tauopathy characterized by predominant involvement of tau isoforms with 4 microtubule-binding repeats rather than 3 repeats. The first publication in this thesis identifies SRSF2 as a crucial regulator of this isoform imbalance. The second is a neuropathological study of a human deficient in the protein kinase PERK. The results show that this deficiency leads to early neuropathological changes suggestive of neurodegenerative diseases, including PSP.

- Die progressive supranukleäre Blickparese (PSP) ist eine Taupathie mit überwiegend vier statt drei Mikrotubuli Bindungsstellen. Die erste Veröffentlichung beschreibt eine entscheidende Rolle für den Spleißfaktor SRSF2 in der Kontrolle dieser Ungleichheit. Die zweite Veröffentlichung ist eine neuropathologische Untersuchung eines Menschen mit einem Mangel von PERK. Die Untersuchungen beider Arbeiten deuten darauf hin, dass PERK und SRSF2 bedeutende Rollen in der Pathogenese der PSP spielen.
