The development of new, innovative products is a knowledge-intensive and highly dynamic process. Several methods for formal, computational design synthesis have been successfully developed in the last few decades. Graph grammars are capable of defining the evolution – or synthesis – of products, effectively utilizing engineering knowledge to synthesize design solutions. Furthermore they are well supported computationally. Graph grammars provide not only the foundation for synthesizing graph-based models but also for modeling structural change. Because of their intuitive nature and they are very efficient computationally, they represent an approach that goes beyond the limitations of DSM-based methods for modeling dynamic changes in structures.     «
