- Abstract:
- The reaction of toluene methylation was investigated over acidic zeolites to better understand the limitations of this reaction and to improve the catalytic activity and selectivity towards p-xylene. A significant fraction of methanol was utilized to form products other than xylenes because the aromatic products were methylated further. The hierarchical materials derived from ZSM5 by a series of modifications increased the toluene turnover rate and p-xylene selectivity simultaneously.

- Die durch saure Zeolithe katalysierte Alkylierung von Toluol mit Methanol wurde untersucht und durch gezielte Modifikation verbessert. Mit steigender Porengröße der Zeolithe wurde Methanol effizienter umgesetzt. Modifizierte ZSM5 Zeolithe mit einer ausgeprägten hierarchischen Porenstruktur waren aufgrund der Verringerung der Diffusionslimitierung deutlich aktiver als die Ausgangsproben. Die Oberflächenmodifizierung durch mesoporöses SiO2 erhöhte die Aktivität und Selektivität zu p-Xylol.
